This Media and Communication programme at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University   is currently undergoing major revisions to be implemented in September 2022, pending approval.The revised programme will allow students to choose between two pathways: a practical pathway, Professional Communication, and a research pathway, Global Media and China. The proposed revisions include ending the part-time programme.


Graduates are well prepared for careers in the ever-expanding, international media environment that requires multifaceted, disruptive, cutting-edge technology and key opinion leaders. Our alumni are employed as digital media entrepreneurs, media company executives, digital change consultants, public relations executives, international media facilitators, and print and broadcast journalists.

Bachelor Degree in communication, media, English, English with media or similar

No practical experience is required, but some relevant media practice/background would be an advantage; individual cases will be considered on their own merits


  • UK upper second class honours (2:1) or equivalent


  • Top 100 of 2021 Shanghai Ranking or World-class universities or First-class disciplines (MoE, People’s Republic of China): 75 percent or above (Weighted Average Mark)
  • Other universities: 80 - 85 percent or above (Weighted Average Mark), depending on your undergraduate institution


  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA (out of 4) or
  • 3.2 Cumulative GPA in the final two years of your undergraduate programme
