The Master of Professional Accounting (Global Leadership Program) at Swinburne University of Technology is delivered in Melbourne via a combination of face-to-face and online delivery modes. Students also have the opportunity to undertake part of the program at Northeastern, subject to application and visa requirements.

The accounting component provides students with the technical, practical, analytical and creative skills required to deal effectively with accounting and finance issues in planning and decision-making. The leadership component is designed to assist today’s leaders and prepare emerging leaders to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex and diverse workforce, and is taught by Northeastern academics.

This master program provides an avenue for graduates to achieve professional recognition and help fill the shortage of professionally recognised accountants. As many candidates may already be established in a business career, the key vocational outcomes will arise from better current job performance together with new opportunities opening in the accounting and finance areas.

Aims and objectives

At completion of the Master of Professional Accounting, graduates should be able to:

1. apply coherent and advanced knowledge of international business concepts in diverse global leadership contexts and applications using critical thinking

2. apply problem solving, design and decision making methodologies to identify and provide innovative solutions to complex global leadership problems with intellectual independence

3. communicate proficiently in professional practice to a variety of audiences, function as an effective member or leader of a diverse team, and use advanced tools and practices of international business within project work

4. demonstrate professionalism, integrity, ethical conduct, professional accountability and a deep awareness of professional practices in a global and sustainable leadership context

5. apply international business fundamentals to the analysis, design and operation of a business model using appropriate international business methods and tools, applied in a variety of contexts

6. apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan and execute a piece of research with some independence as preparation for research higher degrees

7. reflect on and take responsibility for their own learning and self-management processes, and manage their own time and processes effectively by regularly reviewing performance as a means of managing continuing professional development and lifelong learning.
