Adolescent Young Adult Education Licensure (Grades 7 – 12)

Overview

Adolescent Young Adult Education Licensure (Grades 7 – 12) prepares candidates for teaching children in adolescent to young adult (AYA), grades 7-12 (licensure in integrated language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, or mathematics/physics) and multi-age, K-12 (licensure in foreign language – Spanish, French) at both the undergraduate and post-baccalaureate levels.

The Adolescent Young Adult Education Licensure (Grades 7 – 12) from Cleveland State University (CSU)   includes concentrated study in Biology, Chemistry, English, Environmental Science, French, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish, or Physics. Undergraduates will earn a degree in their field (from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences or College of Science and Health Professions) plus a license in four years and post baccalaureates can earn a license to teach grades K-12 or 7-12 in two years.

Outcome

• The curriculum focuses on the nature and needs of adolescent to young adults as they particularly relate to the design, delivery, and evaluation of culturally and developmentally responsive instruction. Throughout the program, the acquisition of professional knowledge and skills is aided by reflective practice and inquiry. To that end, the observation of middle and high school students and settings accompanies relevant study, is followed by on-site practice, and culminates in supervised teaching apprenticeships.
