Technological and societal changes have led to an explosion of digitally available data. Exploiting this data to its fullest extent, in order to improve decision making, increase productivity, and deepen our understanding of scientific questions, is one of today's major challenges. 

Data science is an emerging discipline that aims to address this challenge. It is a multi-disciplinary domain, where computer science and mathematics play crucial roles, complemented with human-technology interaction, business models and operations management expertise and skills. 

The freedom you have to determine the content of your program enables you to take your studies in any direction: from a heavily theory-based program to a more practice-based program. Furthermore, you could focus more on computer science or mathematics, or create a mixed profile.

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).

In order to be admitted to the Master program Data Science in Engineering, you will be required to have the following academic background:

  • A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other closely related discipline. Basic knowledge of several of the following subjects (as acquired in Bachelor level coursework): calculus and probability theory, logic and set theory, linear algebra, data modeling and databases, calculus-based statistics, data structures and algorithms, and basic programming.
  • Lack of knowledge in up to three subjects can be compensated for during the Masters program.
