The Masters in Public Administration features a career-centred curriculum that empowers students to make a more meaningful impact in their communities. In this flexible programme, you can take breaks when you need them and choose the exit pathway that best suits you:
- Full masters (180 credits), 30 months
- Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits), 24 months
- Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits), 12 months
- Postgraduate Micro-credentials (10 credits), 8 weeks
Lecturers
The online Masters in Public Administration is led by Dr Philip Whiteman, an academic and former government policy officer with research interests related to public policy and administration.
For each module you will have a dedicated module convener and seminar tutor, and will be in contact with them regularly as they guide you through the programme content, discussion activities and assignments.

General requirements
- For entry to the online Masters in Public Administration, you must have obtained (or be predicted to obtain) an upper second-class degree from a UK university OR an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
- If you do not meet standard entry criteria, we may accept applications with a lower degree and significant work experience. Contact us to learn more.
- If English is not your first language, you will need to supply an up-to-date English language certificate. Alternative test certificates are also accepted, and exemptions can be made. Please contact us to find out more.
Offer in Principle:
Email your degree certificate (onlineadmissions@contacts.bham.ac.uk) to us and a member of the online admissions team will provide feedback within 48 hours. Students who meet standard entry criteria are eligible for an ‘Offer in Principle,’ which is valid for 30 days. If you receive one, we can support you in submitting a fast-tracked application.

All programme content will be delivered through Canvas – the University’s online learning platform. Therefore, students will need:- A reliable laptop or desktop PC- Good internet connection- Headset with microphone for audio and speaking with tutors or peers
