Overview
Students in the Geophysics at University of Alaska Fairbanks have the option to obtain a general geophysics degree or to choose one of three concentrations to focus their studies.
Learning Outcomes
Upon graduation, a student is expected to be able to:
- address geophysical problems using the principles of conservation of energy, mass and momentum using both physical and mathematical concepts, particularly with respect to mathematical techniques such as linear algebra, vector calculus and partial differential equations;
- explain physical processes underlying the Earth’s global-scale features, including plate tectonics and the gravitational and magnetic fields;
Programme Structure
- Geosciences is the study the Earth and its people through geography, geology and geophysics. This includes a broad range of subjects like volcanism, plate tectonics, glaciology, remote sensing and mineralogy.
- Geography can focus on physical science or it can investigate the patterns and processes that shape human society like religion or economics. Geoscience jobs are plentiful, salaries are competitive, and the demand for young and enthusiastic geoscientists is expected to grow.
