Aeroacoustics refers to the study of noise generated by turbulent fluid motion and by aerodynamic forces interacting with surfaces. 


The Aeroacoustics Graduate Program, offering both M.S. and Ph.D. options, prepares a student with the advanced technical knowledge and communication skills necessary for pursuing a career in industry, engineering research and development, or public/government service. Students entering the program can come from a variety of engineering and non-engineering backgrounds; however, the successful applicant will have a strong background in engineering, physics, mathematics or a related field.  Courses in the Aeroacoustics curriculum are taught by professors across a range of scientific disciplines including Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.

General requirements

  • Both thesis and non-thesis options are available to receive the M.S. in Engineering Science with an emphasis in Aeroacoustics.
  • Both options require as a minimum 30 semester hours of graduate credit (to include 6 hours of math-related courses) in which the student’s adviser must approve all course selections. Under the thesis option, the minimum of 30 graduate credits shall consist of 24 hours of graded course work and 6 thesis hours.
  • The non-thesis option requires as a minimum 30 hours of graded course work. Regardless of the option, each candidate must pass a final oral examination.
