TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.

General requirements

Academic requirements:

  • 4-year undergraduate degree in Music. Equivalent of a 2.5 GPA out of 4.0. Auditions or interviews are required for acceptance into Chamber Music, Conducting, Electro-Acoustic Music, Performance, Piano Pedagogy and Theory concentrations. Approved portfolios are required for acceptance into Composition and Jazz Composition.

English language requirements:

  • 1 - Semester Pathway - TOEFL iBT 79+, IELTS 6.5+, PTEA 53+, or IELA 176 (169 subscores).
  • 2 - Semesters Pathway - TOEFL 65, IELTS 5.5 (5.0 in all subscores), PTEA 44, Completion of Academic English Level 5, Password Test Level 6, IELA 169 (162 in all subscores), or Duolingo 55.
