The program is taught in English. The program is organized under the Sino-Danish Centre for Education and Research. Both Aalborg University and UCAS are responsible for this specialization.

Innovation Management gives you knowledge and skills in innovation at community and company level. As a graduate you will be able to plan and execute development projects in both private and public organizations.

Innovation is a crucial driver of competitiveness and sustainability for companies, institutions and organisations of all sizes. The objective of this programme is to give you a profound understanding of what innovation is and equip you with tools to help you understand and manage complex innovation processes.

Being good at innovation is not just about being creative. Creativity may result in good ideas, but if these ideas are not geared towards creating value through their application and commercialisation, they may never become innovations. The innovation management programme not only teaches you how to identify creative ideas, it teaches you how to develop and bring them to life in various contexts, creating value and enhancing the competitive advantage of innovating organisations.

Job and career

Employers are increasingly focusing on innovation and business development and are in need of experts and managers, who are qualified in these areas. Innovation is today seen as a very important driver for future competitiveness and sustainability of companies, institutions and organisations of various sizes. The IM-curriculum reflects this need for innovation managers and experts, who can build an organisation to be creative, innovative and who have a global mindset. It entails detailed understanding of global market mechanisms, technological development, strategic insight, organisational skills, entrepreneurial drive and creativity. By incorporating these disciplines in the curriculum, the IM education aims at meeting these demands of the job market.

Furthermore, the programme has aspirations not only to equip the candidates with basic skills of finding their place and integrating into organizational structures of existing entities, but also to encourage their interest to start up their own companies. The programme also offers its candidates opportunities to participate in academic research in the field of innovation, opening up opportunities for them both in academia and the public domain.

Lastly, a large emphasis is put on developing the international profile of candidates. After being part of the truly global classroom in China, the graduates of the programme enter the job market with a double-degree from Denmark and China providing them with relevant skills and knowledge that gives them a competitive global edge on the labour market.

As a graduate of the programme, you have expertise in the following areas:

  • How innovation systems (corporate, technological, national) work and the various factors affecting them in both local and global contexts
  • How to identify, develop and implement activities that can enhance the innovation capabilities of companies and organisations
