The Industrial Mathematics program of Rutgers University puts an emphasis on mathematical modeling, computational techniques, and statistical reasoning. Students will develop skills in abstraction, analysis of structure and logical thinking. They will also develop expertise in formulating and solving problems. This concentration provides the knowledge of modeling and numerical techniques fundamental to pursuing a career in industry. Students in this concentration will also study quantative finance, analytics, as well as risk management.

  • It is strongly recommended that the prospective student complete, by the date of enrollment in the graduate program, a Bachelor’s degree with a major in mathematics or a related field with a GPA greater than 3.0
  • The department requires transcripts of all undergraduate work, and two letters of recommendation.
  • Applicants for the industrial applied mathematics concentration must submit a statement indicating that they are proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Fortran, C, C++, or an equivalent. Students concerned about their preparation should contact the concentration coordinator.
