Overview
Description
Students already enrolled in a degree program at the GSE, who already possess a Standard or CEAS or are currently working toward initial teacher certification, may complete the Education: Preschool Through Grade-3 program of Rutgers University in conjunction with their degree program. In addition, non-degree-seeking students may complete the program on a non-matriculated basis (see below for more information about this option).
The program has three goals:
- to prepare early childhood professionals to work in diverse settings with an understanding of the contexts in which children grow and develop;
- to prepare teachers who are knowledgeable about children’s learning and their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development; and
- to foster an understanding of a variety of ways in which early childhood programs can be delivered to support the foundations of discipline-based knowledge in literacy, mathematics, science, and art.

General requirements
- All applicants who are not currently in a Graduate/Non-degree program and don’t have an active RU ID # will need to complete a Graduate Study application. Applications can be completed online.
- Applicants are responsible for reviewing and confirming that they meet program requirements before the application is submitted. Rutgers Graduate School of Education WILL NOT refund the application fee if an applicant is not accepted. Applications are due two weeks before the beginning of the next semester. Students are admitted throughout the year for this non-degree program.
