The Department of Near Eastern Studies (NES) at Princeton University has been a leader in the study of the Middle East since 1927, when it was founded as the Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures.

For students contemplating careers in government, business, or journalism, where a Ph.D. is not a requirement, the Program in Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University offers a two-year degree curriculum leading to the M.A. as a final degree. 

This special program is governed by an Interdepartmental Committee, and enables a limited number of students to take a multidisciplinary course of study under the guidance of the director of the program leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Near Eastern studies.
