Duke University's Master of Arts in Teaching Program partners with Durham Public High Schools to prepare culturally responsive teachers who focus on relationships with students and reflection on their teaching practice.  

Overview

The Program provides individualized support for teacher candidates, in part through a collaborative cohort model. The Master of Arts in Teaching candidates conduct a 27-week-long internship at two Durham Public Schools under the guidance of experienced mentor-faculty. Through graduate-level education and content-area coursework, students develop their teaching skills and become thoughtful leaders in the field of education.

Program Outcomes

The twelve-months Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Duke University is designed for individuals interested in getting a license to teach in the following content areas:

  • Secondary Math Education
To earn the Master of Arts in Teaching certification, you must have an undergraduate degree in that field of certification, or in a field closely related.

It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.
