About

You'll develop the skills needed by today's environmental managers, policymakers and scientists to tackle environmental issues at local, regional and global levels. You'll be prepared for a wide range of careers across the public and private sectors. This Masters also provides a good basis for further study at PhD level.

The core modules will provide you with knowledge in Environmental Economics and a appreciation of the challenges to which economic analysis can be applied. You'll also be equipped to incorporate environmental feedback into economic decision making in a way that satisfies both ecological managers and economists.

You'll learn about the economics and management of natural resources and develop your critical and analytical skills in these areas. You'll gain both theoretical and practical experience of issues in environmental economics and management. You will be trained in suitable research methods and relevant ethical and legal issues. You'll develop your research skills and experience through completing a large research project.

    C1 Advanced is a Cambridge English Qualification. It reports on the Cambridge English Scale between 142 and 210. You will receive a separate score for each of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and for Use of English. These five scores are averaged to give you an overall result for the exam. Universities and colleges may ask you to achieve a specific score, either overall or for a particular skill.

Academic Requirements

To enter the MSc in Environmental Economics and Environmental Management directly the applicant:

1) must have obtained, or expect to obtain, at least an upper second class degree (i.e. 2.1 or equivalent) 2) must have studied both some economics and some biology, one at degree level 3) IELTS: 6.0; TOEFL: paper-based: 550; CBT: 213; iBT: 79; and Cambridge: Cambridge Proficiency: A, B, C; Cambridge Cert in Advanced English: A

However, able candidates may compensate for a lack of undergraduate economics by taking the Economics Department's Summer School in Microeconomics and Statistics (4 week course) starting the last week of August 2007. Special consideration may be made for candidates who wish to take courses in mid-career as continued professional development. Diploma applicants must also have an adequate level of English.

Applicants whose native language is not English may wish to improve their English whilst studying at York by attending (for a small extra fee) courses run by the University's Language Centre during their degree. As well as improving language skills this course will also provide a valuable introduction to British culture.

Funding

If you've completed an undergraduate degree at York you could be eligible for a 10% Masters fee discount.YuFund and the York Graduate Research School are funding two Taught Master's scholarships, each worth £5000, in the Arts and Humanities Faculty. Candidates will be nominated by the department, and must hold an offer by March 31st, 2016. Candidates must be York graduates or current students at the time of application. Home and Overseas students are eligible for this award, so long as they are York graduates. Criteria are academic excellence, and suitability and commitment to the chosen MA/MSc programme. No separate application by the student is required--they will be judged on the application and personal statement.Overseas students: There are university scholarships available to applicants who pay tuition fees at the overseas rate. There is a separate application form that you will need to complete and submit for these scholarships. The deadline for applications to these scholarships is 30 April of the year in which you wish to start your degree. You must hold an offer from the department in order to apply for the overseas student scholarships, but you do not have to have accepted your place to be considered.
