Illinois Tech’s Master of Biological Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology will prepare students for professional practice in any field of engineering involving heavy emphasis on biological processes. 


Our Biological Engineering faculty are pushing the needle toward discovery and innovation in many fields, including diabetes, tissue scaffolding, hydrogels, biomimetic materials, and other specialized areas within this growing discipline.

With a goal of developing effective biology-based technologies, students will learn to design and analyze systems to develop innovative and practical solutions.

  • Illinois Tech requires a four-year bachelor’s degree conferred with a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0/4.0 (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution for regular admission.

  • Academic requirements: GPA of at least 3.0.
  • GMAT or GRE is required: GRE/GMAT is required, apart from Master of Public Administration. Check out the GRE requirements per department @ admissions.iit.edu/graduate/apply/gre-requirements
  • Personal Statement required
  • Letter of Recommendation is suggested, but not required
