Visit the official programme website for more information

Overview

The MA is affiliated with UCLan Publishing , an award-winning independent Publishing house which operates out of the university. Students will have full access to the resources throughout their studies to gain practical skills and the industry experience vital for a successful career in Publishing.

UCLan Publishing is recognised on both sides of the fence: in academia and in industry. We have won the prestigious Times Higher Award for Innovation in the Arts (2018) and in industry we won the Nick Robinson Newcomer Award at the Independent Publishing Awards (2019).

Why study with us

By taking the Publishing programme at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) you will be provided with opportunities to work with the content from the commercial publishing house, UCLan Publishing. This means you will be able to directly implement your learning into supporting the business thus gaining invaluable work experience to add to your CV as you go through the curriculum.

We teach important digital skills for industry and the workplace. For example, InDesign, Photoshop, Audition, Audacity.

We are the founders of the Northern Young Adult Literary Festival which is an Arts Council funded festival designed to make Children’s and Young Adult books more accessible to an audience in the North. The festival has had prestigious authors attend such as Juno Dawson, Holly Bourne, Melinda Salisbury, Matt Killeen, Patrice Lawrence and Yaba Badoe.

Future careers

You can take part in the university’s annual CJAM event which is an industry networking event spanning the subjects across Journalism, Arts and Media. This means you can pitch to a publishing professional for industry experience.

Our alumni are spread out across industry and they often return to meet students to feedback their advice and experience. We have graduates at Macmillan, Penguin Random House, Nosy Crow, Bloomsbury, Manchester University Press, Thames & Hudson, DK, Oxford University Press and many more in roles as diverse as editors, publicists, project managers and production co-ordinators.
