The Synthetic Organic Chemistry course from University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) provides training, knowledge and a perspective of a broad range of chemical industries reliant upon organic chemistry.

Visit the official programme website for more information

This Synthetic Organic Chemistry course from University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) blends a theoretical knowledge of advanced concepts in organic synthesis and spectroscopic analysis with a focus on applying these skills in industry – so you’ll emerge with a broad range of skills and be equipped to succeed in roles within the chemicals sector and related industries, ranging from pharmaceuticals to micro-electronics.

Unlike many master’s level courses of this type, we don’t focus on one particular application of organic chemistry. Instead we give you broad perspectives across a range of chemical industries, maximising your career opportunities.

You’ll work with state-of-the-art equipment in modern laboratories. Our JB Firth Building gives you access to the latest analytical techniques to support practical investigations.

To enhance your work experience, you’ll have the opportunity to undertake a professional placement in industry as part of your MSc course. This will extend your study time by six to twelve months (depending on the length of the placement).

Future careers

After achieving a postgraduate degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, the possibilities are almost endless and you’ll be ready for a career which makes a positive impact on society.

After graduating, you will be highly employable. The chemical industry provides direct employment for 214,000 people within the UK and supports several hundred thousand additional jobs throughout the economy. 23% of the UK chemical industry is based within the North West region. The UK chemicals industry outperforms virtually all other UK manufacturing industries, with an average growth rate of 2.9% compared to a 0.5% for all other manufacturing industries.
