To this end, the Program in Social Information Systems at the Open University of Cyprus teaches relevant theory, principles and best practices stemming not only from computer and information science, but also from the social sciences.

In particular, the Program has as its mission:

  • Research related to the design and analysis of social information systems, with emphasis on technologies that support.
  • Research related to the use of social information systems and their influence on the human experience (e.g., their influence on human relationships, the ways in which we communicate, work, learn and entertain ourselves, etc.)
  • Provision of the necessary training for students, which will enable them to be successful professionals in the field of information technology, which continues to undergo rapid change.
  • Promotion of the socio-technical approach to the study of information systems, which views information systems as consisting of both technical and social components that interact and that are interdependent
  • Preparation of graduates who will be effective and ethical users, designers and/or analysts of social information systems.
