About

The MSc Global Migration (by Research) programme at Swansea University allows you to undertake a year long individual programme of personally and professionally enriching research.

Visit the official programme website for more information

Overview

Your  Global Migration (by Research) programme at Swansea University  research project will be shaped by participation in activities such as seminars, workshops, laboratory activity and field work, as well as your involvement in one of our established research groups.

While this research programme usually finishes after a year (or two years for part-time students), it can be used to progress to the second year of a PhD degree in the appropriate circumstances.

Supervision

The Department of Geography and the College of Science provide a supportive and friendly environment for our thriving community of research students from all over the world, and you will work closely with and be supported by the Department's academic staff.

One of our Human Geography academic staff members will be your primary supervisory, and they will guide you through your studies.

You will also have a second supervisor from either Human Geography or an appropriate cognate discipline, depending on the nature of your project.

Programme Structure

The range of our current human geographical research in this area includes

  • Multi-sensuous geographies of movement and the ways they are governed;
  • The diversity of mobile experiences (labour migrations, cultural mobility, spiritual mobilities) and the divisions they produce;
  • Mobile subjectivities, socialities and politics of mobility;
  • Inequalities and power dynamics of different mobilities and migrations.
  • Rethinking care for marginalised people: different ways of com-passionate being together with mobile others;
  • Developing broader (excessive) understanding of ethical responsibility for people in need;
