Graduate students learn to conduct innovative and high quality research to solve emerging problems in food science by:

  • Demonstrating a fundamental understanding of food science knowledge and principles.
    • Applying scientific knowledge to assess and solve food science problems.
    • Exhibiting communication skills to convey technical information and defend scientific findings.
    • Designing and conducting research experiments and analyzing research findings.

    General requirements

    • Applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements of the WSU Graduate School. These requirements include a bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 or better GPA. No GRE is required. 
    • Admission requirements include a background in an area of food science, agriculture, or related field; or documented evidence of coursework or work experience in these areas. Without this relevant background, students may be required to complete 6 to 9 semester credits of prerequisite courses at the beginning of their degree program, and these courses may or may not be counted toward the degree program requirements.
