About

The Individual Study Plan in Design programme of Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design offers you the opportunity to specialise within the field of design.

Overview

The Individual Study Plan in Design programme of Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design prepares students for designing products, services, systems, and experiences, while exploring complex social challenges, often in collaboration with others.

We approach design by thinking its products in terms of processes rather than as static things. This approach allows for considering socio-ecological dimensions of design and their relations to humans and other-than-humans.

We view design as a way of engaging in, challenging, understanding and changing worlds by making propositions in particular situations. We view design as an explorative approach in which different kinds of attitudes and methods are needed. Today and in the future the work of the designer is multifaceted and involves something that at times leads to smaller and gradual changes, at times bigger and radical ones. Irrespective of which, the capacity for critical reflection on the consequences for those affected both directly and indirectly in the short and long term is required. Continual training in this way of thinking will be given during this Master's programme.

Your specialisation begins with the declaration of intent that you submit with your application. You will pursue your studies mainly in the form of projects and courses that can support your individual approach. You will be working in studios, workshops, laboratories and in society at large.

This direction offers you preparations for both professional careers as well as further studies at doctoral level.

Programme Structure

The programme contains courses that provide experience of different approaches and methods that will help to develop your own capacity to understand, create, and make decisions.
