Overview
The German and French Philosophy programme at the Faculty of Human Sciences of Charles University deals with analyses of epochal thresholds, intercultural philosophy, the philosophy of art and the interdisciplinary project of an ecological philosophy, which can open up new perspectives on fundamental questions of economics and ecology. In this orientation, the courses are also of interest to all those who are interested in cultural studies and theories of culture. The central concern is not to simply assume concepts of 'culture', but to question them philosophically.
The particular advantages of studying in Prague are small working groups and intensive individual support. All work to be done by students, such as term papers, presentations and final theses (master's theses and dissertations), can be written in German. There is also the option of attending courses in Czech, French and English. In workshop seminars, students are given the opportunity to present their own projects right from the start. From the very beginning, students are also supported in publishing their own work. The faculty also awards scholarships that can be used to finance research stays abroad as part of a master's or doctoral thesis. The basic rule is that students are supported according to their own philosophical interests so that they can realize them to the maximum.
Prospects after graduation
Graduates are prepared for subsequent doctoral studies and corresponding work in academic and scientific institutions. Thanks to the professional and linguistic skills they have acquired, they are also able to work in cultural policy management in the state and non-state sectors, both nationally and internationally, in the media or in publishing houses.
