The 2nd-cycle study programme in Philosophy leads to "magisterij" (master's degree). It is implemented by the Faculty of Arts and its main goal is to educate graduates in independent and critical thinkers - philosophers that would be experts in their narrow area as well as be able, with their general and transferable knowledge and skills, to cope with the requirements of modern society.

About

These qualifications widen the employment spectra of the graduates to all fields where the ability of being thoughtful, critical, and analytical, as well as tolerant and democratic, is preferred.

The main general competences achieved by the graduates are:
  • ability to identify the underlying issues in different kinds of debate;
  • ability for reflection and conceptualization of his/her own activity;
  • ability of grasping the problem analysis, synthesis and prediction of solutions in the expert knowledge;
  • capability of critical thinking;
  • interdisciplinary linking of topics;
  • learning intellectual honesty through impartial assessment of conflicting ideas, views and conceptions;
  • capability of creative thinking; and
  • ability of creative and autonomous work.
The main specific competences achieved by the graduates:
  • capacity for abstracting, analysing and constructing sound arguments;
  • ability to identify and avoid logical fallacies, vague formulations, sloppy expressions and reasoning, rhetorical tricks, methodological errors, apparent truths and their hidden assumptions;
  • use of imagination in the form of thought experiments; and
  • capability of analytical thinking and understanding of elaborate systems, which enables collaboration in different interdisciplinary groups.

    Living Costs

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.

Funding

Full-time students from Slovenia and other EU countries, and full-time students from non-EU countries who are granted international protection, applicants for international protection and persons from countries with which Slovenia has concluded bilateral agreement (i.e. Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo, B&H, and Serbia) pay NO TUITION FEE (except the part for studying in English, if applicable) if they have not already obtained an education corresponding to master's degree.
