Each year, 75 students from more than 30 countries come to the Europa-Institut for the one-year Master's program in European and international law. The program awards the title Master of Laws (LL.M.) and combines a practice-oriented approach with excellence in academic teaching. Highly qualified lecturers prepare the students of the Masters program for the specific demands of the European and international job market.
The program can be completed entirely in English, entirely in German or in a combination of both languages. It is divided into a nine-month study program, followed by a three-month period for the drafting of the Master's thesis. Five specialization study units are offered: Module 1 European Integration and Modules 2 to 5 with the study units European Economic Law, Foreign Trade and Investment, International Dispute Resolution and European and International Protection of Human Rights offer a high degree of specialization in quickly expanding professional fields within European and international law. With its unique mixture of lectures, seminars, interactive exercises, moot courts, language courses, communication skills training and discussions, the program ideally combines theoretical knowledge and practical application.
The Europa-Institut welcomes students with a university degree in law or in a comparable subject (business studies, humanities) from a German or foreign university. Graduates from the program often hold positions in European and international organizations, law firms, national governments and international companies.
In addition to professors teaching at Saarland University, the Europa-Institut hosts guest professors from an array of countries. Included are top EU civil servants from the Commission, Council, Parliament and the Court of Justice, as well as leading personalities from the judiciary, business world, administration and political sector.
