The purpose of the graduate programme in Middle East Studies is to provide thorough knowledge of contemporary historical and political conditions of the Middle East.
The student will acquire both historical overview of the Middle East and detailed insight into central issues of the shaping of the modern Middle East - issues which have contributed and will continue to contribute to form the Middle East, Middle East Studies, and the processes that will characterise the region and the research fields in the beginning of the 21st century.
This Middle East Studies programme is offered by the University of Southern Denmark. The study programme will also focus on the Middle East involving issues concerning Mediterranean perspectives, cultural encounters, refugee problems and human rights issues and European and Danish integration.
The aim of the programme is to provide students with qualifications that will motivate them to seek jobs and functions in the Middle East and that will equip them to fulfill these – including jobs associated with the Middle East in a European or Danish context. In addition, the aim is to provide students with qualifications that will equip them for tasks in the Danish, Scandinavian and European integration sector.
The graduates in Middle East Studies have been employed in many different areas. The secret services in Denmark (PET and FE) and the Danish integration sector (in ministries and municipalities) are the top scorers. The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test.
Note: degree programmes and applications may require a more specific minimum score for admission.

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.

Six one-year scholarships are issued pr. year: three for studies within the technical field i.e. Mechatronics and Innovation & Business respectively, and three are for studies within the field of business administration i.e. Business Relationship Management.
A scholarship of DKK 40.000 may be granted if and when the requirements are met. It is paid in two instalments of DKK 20.000 per semester. The scholarship grant depends on acceptance and enrolment as a full-time student in one of the above mentioned programmes.
