Curriculum and Instruction - Literacy Education program of Louisiana State University extends knowledge beyond initial teacher preparation by focusing on coursework that targets literacy foundations, philosophies, research, methods, and materials. Students have five years to complete all degree requirements. This includes required courses to earn the Reading Specialist endorsement in Louisiana.

The Master of Education in Literacy Education is a 36-hour program. The program accommodates both full-time and part-time graduate students. Most courses are offered annually. Students complete a minimum of 12 hours in the areas of curriculum studies, research, technology, and humanistic and behavioral studies. Students complete an additional 12 hours in literacy education, and 6 - 12 hours of electives.

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from a foreign institution. 
  • A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 (A = 4.0) on all undergraduate work (or in the final 64 credit hours) and any graduate work already completed.
  • Acceptable GRE or GMAT scores. 
  • A copy of the name page of your passport.
  • A completed Affidavit of Support and supporting financial documents (required to process forms for F-1 and J-1 visas). Note: Your application will be processed even if your financial documents are not included.
