Overview

About the programme

Social Communication from Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais  is a study of interactions in a mediatized society, in which communication logics and technologies, implicated in everyday life, are fundamental to mediations. The presence of the media occurs, in a broad sense, through institutions, apparatuses, cultural forms and symbolic resources. In this context, the circulation of senses and meanings is investigated from the perspective of social bonding.

This media presence occurs, in a broad and procedural sense, through institutions, apparatuses, cultural forms and symbolic resources. In this perspective, the media involves technical devices that enable mass, segmented and networked communication, with its encodings and algorithms; the production and circulation of socially shared and appropriated meanings; the constitution of substrates that reverberate in everyday conversations and actions; the broader relationship with art and culture, their traditional (family, school, religion, etc.) and contemporary (ethnic and gender groups, etc.) matrices and mediating instances.
