About

The History program at Istanbul Sehir University helps students develop their research, writing & teaching skills.  

In addition, it provides an excellent background for alternative careers in teaching, library and archival work, government service, historical preservation, and allied research fields.

The program taught in English is particularly strong in the fields of Islamic and Ottoman/Turkish history.

At Sehir History, you will learn how to work with primary and secondary sources and to interpret them critically. You will also gain a thorough understanding of different schools of historical interpretation and experiment with them. Students are encouraged to build coherent arguments and express their thoughts lucidly and coherently. 

Career

During the course of the program, you will gain experience in giving oral presentations in an educational setting, making use of appropriate audio-visual techniques and possibilities, and will be provided with the skillset you need for a doctoral program in history or humanities and the pursuit of your academic career.

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
