About Sustainable Development at The University of Iowa

For students looking to build a better tomorrow, the University of Iowa has a new answer. In Fall 2022, the UI will begin offering an Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Sustainable Development. This program will build on course work, community-engaged projects, and professional development experiences that will culminate in a master’s degree.

Students will be trained as next-generation sustainability professionals for career placement opportunities at state and federal agencies, national laboratories, policy think tanks, and in the private sector.

General requirements

  • A U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or an equivalent degree from another country as determined by the Office of Admissions.
  • Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
  • English Proficiency Requirements
  • submit the online application to the Graduate College and pay the $60 application fee by credit card ($100 for international applicants).
  • A one-to-two-page self-statement describing why you are interested in the Sustainable Development Graduate Program
  • Résumé
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A set of your unofficial academic records/transcripts uploaded on your Admissions Profile.
  • Once recommended for admission, international students must send a Financial Statement.
