Overview
By combining the excellence and traditions of two schools, each close to an important financial center, students will gain a broader perspective on finance and will be well equipped to meet the challenges of a career in today’s complex, international and technologically changing world of finance.
What you'll study
The Double Degree in Finance and Banking (St. Gallen - SSE) from Stockholm School of Economics consists of two academic years, one at SSE and one at the University of St Gallen. The students in the Master program in Finance at SSE can apply during the first year of the Master program. At the University of St. Gallen (HSG), students follow courses in the Master of Arts in Banking and Finance. Double Degree students will graduate with a degree from each institution.
The Double Degree program, just like similar programs with Bocconi University and Sciences Po, is intended to offer students an opportunity for a deeply embedded international experience, with academic and long-term career benefits.
Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- 60 ECTS mandatory and elective courses.
- 47* ECTS consisting of courses, core studies and contextual studies. The course choice must be approved by the SSE Program Director.
- Graduation requirements differ: The University of St. Gallen requires a Master thesis of 18 ECTS, while SSE requires a thesis of 30 ECTS. Because of this, SSE students spending their second year at the University of St. Gallen will write and defend their thesis at the University of St. Gallen (in compliance with all local rules and calendars), and, in addition, write a second thesis, for the remaining 12 ECTS, with an SSE supervisor. Both theses will be graded by an SSE examiner and should be submitted as one document under a common title in fulfilment of the SSE graduation requirements.
