Overview
The three pillars of the Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate Science programme from Université de Lyon , for all these subject areas, are physics, observation and modelling. Graduates are thus well equipped to work in fundamental research, applied research or industrial applications.
This masters programme is the fruit of almost 30 years of collaborative research by the three participating laboratories, in the fields of atmospheric physics, chemistry and environmental fluid mechanics, and is based on their combined experience in measurement and modelling. A significant proportion of the teaching programme is dedicated to laboratory work, giving students the opportunity to work with experimental installations that are not widely available.
Much of the practical work is based on small group projects, to encourage collaborative work and to facilitate student integration. The collaboration between the Ecole Centrale de Lyon and the University Lyon 1 offers students unrivalled access to a wide range of elective courses, including courses in the social and economic sciences, the arts and humanities.
Career paths
This Master's course leads to careers in research (70% of graduates) : mostly in research establishments (CNES, CEA, IRSN, Meteo-France, INERIS, IFSTTAR, ESA, MPI, NASA… ), in industrial research or in academic research laboratories (universities, CNRS, INSU).
