Overview
The Advanced Data Transfer Systems program from ITMO University aims to train world-class specialists with various competencies, from fundamentals of materials physics, theory and practice of the synthesis of photonic materials, physics and technology of semiconductor structures, straight to applied aspects of the design and fabrication of modern optical devices and systems in advanced data transfer.
Students will acquire in-depth expertise in the fields of modeling, design, synthesis and research of semiconductor nanostructures, particularly in nanocrystals and quantum dots, key features of dielectric materials (ceramics, glasses and glass-ceramics), as well as their use in the development of devices and systems for semiconductor electronics, waveguide photonics, and nonlinear, diffractive, interference, biomedical, sensory, and display optics.
Specialization
- Optoelectronic Functional Materials
Program description
The development of optics, optical electronics and laser technologies is impossible without materials with unique physical properties. These materials are used for the fabrication of photonic structures for lasers, LEDs, photodetectors, photovoltaic cells, high-performance recording devices, as well as devices for information processing, data storage, communications, computer technologies, and the development of energy-saving technologies, biomedicine, sensors, etc.
As the study of such materials is currently conducted as part of global international projects, the Master’s program at ITMO is carried out with the participation of the university’s international and Russian partners.
