You will be supported by our expert tutors to plan, resource and deliver engaging lessons to pupils of all secondary ages and abilities so that you leave the course knowing how to teach effectively, whilst keeping the interest and enthusiasm of your pupils.
This PGCE Secondary Education with QTS – English (11-16 years) course at University of Cumbria includes QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and students will be helped to apply for a position as a secondary school teacher during their studies and teaching practice.

General requirements
A minimum UK 2:2 honours degree or recognised equivalent qualification in English Language or Literature is required, however strong preference will be given to applicants with 2:1 honours degrees. We also consider applicants with degrees in related subjects such as Media, Film Studies and Drama if supported by strong A-levels in English and/or Literature. Your degree must contain evidence of a substantial and appropriate level of subject knowledge.
- If you don't have an undergraduate degree but do have a Masters or other higher qualification, your application will be considered by our academic tutors on a one-to-one basis.
English and Mathematics at GCSE level at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.
A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) background clearance check prior to starting the course.
