
Overview
SDSI is an international curriculum, delivered by a consortium of 4 higher education institutions – the Art Academy of Latvia, the university of Lapland in Finland, the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, and the Estonian Academy of Arts.
SDSI was designed in 2021 by a consortium of 4 international universities. It emphasises development of leadership skills, and support students in becoming change facilitators who can contribute to innovative, effective and socially responsible service organizations.
At the SDSI, you will learn to lead large-scale service innovation projects that make difference every single day. As a graduate, you will become an architect of change in public or private service orgnaizations, and help shaping the future of your organization / community / city or country of residence by becoming a change facilitator.
Graduates will be awarded with a Master’s double degree, one from the Art Academy of Latvia and one from the University of Lapland. The study process includes study periods abroad to the diploma awarding partner schools – at the Art Academy of Latvia in Kuldiga, Latvia (during semesters 1 and 2) and at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland (during the 3rd semester).
Career:
Service Design Strategies and Innovations at Art Academy of Latvia is a degree with a high employability potential. The service sector has become the largest component of the economy in the EU, accounting for 70% of GDP and generating 90% of jobs. Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills for an uncertain future. They will know how to identify and satisfy unmet needs in a wide range of sectors, and will execute leadership roles in organisations in the private and public sectors, spearheading change processes, envisioning the future, managing multidisciplinary teams and overcoming innovation roadblocks. Career prospects include such positions as Design director, Innovation director, Experience manager, Design strategist, Service designer, UX designer etc.
Accreditation
SDSI is a nationally accredited study programme both in Latvia and in Finland, and is officially a joint (double degree) study programme. It means that graduates will receive two master diplomas at once - one from the Art Academy of Latvia, the other - from the University of Lapland.
Programme Structure
- The study process includes study periods abroad to Kuldiga in Latvia and Rovaniemi in Finland. Occasional workshops might be organised in Tallinn, Estonia and Riga, Latvia.
Audience
Service design is a multidisciplinary field, and can students from any background are welcome. SDSI content structure is designed on the 4 basic knowledge of service design, i.e., design, business, technology and social science. However, candidates from other backgrounds are encouraged to study service design as well!
Lecturers
SDSI lecturers are an international team, coming from the 4 consortium universities: the Art Academy of Lativa, the University of Lapland, the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, and the Estonian Art Academy. Living costs for Kuldiga
The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
Funding
Students can apply for Erasmus+ mobility grant, to fund the mobility from Latvia to Finland during the 3rd (and possibly - 4th) semester. In addition, Erasmus+ internship grants are also possible to foster students' integration into labor market.
