The Technical Design and Technology Education programme at the University of Malta deals with:
- The variables involved in the uptake or downfall of studies (or courses) related to the technological subjects.
- How to address common challenges that traditionally plague technological subject areas such as peoples’ negative perceptions or misinformation.
- How to foster an updated philosophy of technology through better curriculum design, better use of school resources, better links with industrial entities, developing an authentic STEAM approach etc.
- How to develop pedagogically sound practices for teaching and learning technological subjects.
- How technology is learnt through informal activities.
- The cognitive processes involved in the study of technological subjects and how these can be tapped to foster human development.

General requirements
The Course shall be open to applicants in possession of one of the following qualifications:
- a degree in Education with at least Second Class Honours from this University or a degree from another university recognised as equivalent for the purpose together with a minimum of one year’s teaching experience or
- any other degree with at least Second Class Honours together with a recognised teaching or education qualification and a minimum of one year’s teaching experience or
- a degree in Education or a Teacher’s Certificate together with at least five years’ teaching experience and other suitable qualifications obtained following the degree or after the Teacher’s Certificate or
- any first cycle degree with either a recognised teaching qualification or a Diploma in Education together with five years’ experience in an education setting.
