About the faculty

The faculty has more than 49 full-time faculty members. The department of geology now conducts graduate programs in six disciplines including petrology (igneous and metamorphic), stratigraphy and paleontology, structural geology and tectonics, economic geology, sedimentology and sedimentary petrology, and hydrogeology. The department of geography, on the other hand, offers graduate programs in urban planning, rural planning, geomorphology and climatology. The faculty’s library holds a stock of 11,300 volumes of books, out of which about 6100 are in Persian and 5200 in other languages. The earth sciences faculty also has more than six laboratories including laboratory and meteorological station, geomorphology, photogrammetry, regional studies and cartography. The multidisciplinary structure of this faculty affords each student the opportunity to develop a sequence of courses that complements and builds upon his or her previous education and experiences, whether in the earth sciences or in other disciplines.
