The postgraduate MSc Program Healthcare Facilities is jointly organized by the Medical University Vienna and Technical University Vienna. It provides a unique education and training opportunity for all professionals interested in the conception, planning, construction, operation and management of health care facilities.


About this Degree

This part-time Healthcare Facilities degree at the Medical University of Vienna pursues a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach, with input from fields including Medical and Nursing Sciences, Design, Architecture, as well as Design and Spatial Planning. In addition students will learn to apply concepts of Public Health, Health Economics as well as Information Science, Simulation and Complexity Science. The curriculum includes international and national case studies on health care organizations, individual buildings and care processes. Experts in building science, medical technology, medicine and nursing will guide onsite visits and supervise interactive labs. Students will benefit from the educational experience and the network of experts associated with the Medical University Vienna and the Technical University Vienna.

Dedicated buildings for diagnosis and treatment are the cornerstone of health care systems. New diseases, an aging population and economic pressures pose profound challenges. Efficiency, adaptability and sustainability will be key success factors for health care buildings in the future. Students will gain knowledge and practical interdisciplinary expertise to support them with the conceptualization, planning and construction of health care facilities adapted to societal pressures and the individual needs of patients, families, health care workers.

  • The postgraduate university programme Healthcare Facilities (MSc) is aimed, in particular, at architects, engineers, doctors, nursing staff, medical professionals, health and healthcare managers, physicists and computer scientists who are involved in the planning and design of healthcare.
  • Graduates of relevant technical, scientific, economic, legal, human medicine or dental studies at universities in Austria and abroad
  • at least three years of relevant professional experience and
  • have sufficient knowledge of English as a language of instruction.
