The Neuroscience and Education program at the University of California, Riverside provides you with a unique specialization and expertise in the emerging field of educational neuroscience. You will gain important knowledge about clinical presentations, social cognitive development, and educational practice.


The Neuroscience and Education program from University of California, Riverside is intended for students who wish to acquire knowledge in fields related to neuroscience, and take part in ongoing research and educational practice. Graduates from the program may wish to apply for further their graduate credentials (i.e. earn a doctorate), or pursue careers in research labs or centers.


Students complete a minimum of 36 upper-division and graduate units. At least 24 units are in graduate courses. A maximum of 12 units may be in graduate research for the thesis. It is recommended that students take additional graduate courses in PSYC/NRSC. Other courses may be used to complete degree and elective requirements, in consultation with the Faculty Advisor and approval by the Graduate Advisor.

  • Acquire three letters of recommendation from academic sources.
  • The Statement of Purpose is your opportunity to discuss your intent for pursuing a degree in this particular graduate program and how it aligns with your career objectives. The Statement of Purpose essay should then list the faculty member(s) you wish to work with, highlighting the specific research interests you have in common.
  • The Personal History Statement is about your background, culture, economic and social experiences, and how those elements have led you to pursue a graduate degree.
  • The writing sample should be a final class paper submitted for a previous course on any topic. Not to exceed 30 pages.
  • Request TOEFL or IELTS scores electronically from the testing center to be sent to UCR.
