About this Degree
An interdisciplinary approach is used involving collaboration among the disciplines of bacteriology, virology, immunology, molecular biology, pathology, biochemistry, toxicology, and epidemiology. The multidisciplinary composition of veterinary and biomedical sciences provides unique opportunities for research on disease pathogenesis, host defense, characterization of microbial pathogens, gene regulation, disease diagnosis and control, and epidemiology of food animal production.
The school also offers a comprehensive graduate program leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree in integrative biomedical sciences. This Veterinary Science educational program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is designed to provide individualized instruction, with a strong emphasis on health and disease. A prominent area of study consists of research in infectious diseases including biomedicine, bacteriology, immunology, pathology, epidemiology, virology, and mechanisms of disease. Molecular and cell biology techniques are emphasized in most programs.
