The Conducting MM program offered at University of Memphis prepares students for careers as professional choral, wind, or orchestra conductors, and serves as enhancement for teachers in secondary and higher education settings.

What you will study

The Conducting MM program offered at University of Memphis aims to emulate the environment of professional/collegiate conductors and is divided into three primary areas of concentration: Choral, Orchestral, and Wind/Band Conducting. Students are provided meaningful conducting opportunities with the School of Music's finest ensembles to assist them in their development of advanced score study, verbal and nonverbal communication, and leadership skills. Program participants work closely with all of the conducting faculty to broaden skills beyond their primary concentration and enter into a mentorship that provides access to national and international networks of professional musicians.

Faculty in Conducting have conducted professional, semi-professional, and college ensembles all over the country and throughout the world. They have also published numerous articles and are regularly invited through professional organizations and others in higher education to serve as conductors, consultants, and clinicians.
