Overview
To support these it possesses high end equipment like UTM, XRD, SEM, DSC-FTIR, Surface profilometer etc. The major emphasis of the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, right at this moment spread over from characterization of slag to nano-materials.
Mission
- To become the nucleus of Materials Innovation and Learning.
- To offer broad and balanced learning environment that are mutually reinforcing for all-inclusive development in the principles of materials engineering, creative innovation, and instilling teamwork at all professional levels.
Programme Structure
- Historically Metallurgical discipline deals with extraction of metals from their ores, transforming them in different pure or alloy form of different engineering shapes, and to study their internal structure in an atomic scale to correlate with the manifested properties.
- Comparatively, new dimension of understanding and evaluating newer materials necessitate Materials engineering approach, which is an interdisciplinary field to study all type of engineering materials and advanced materials despite their basic classification.
