Overview
Key facts
University of Washington offers a combined MA/PhD in English in addition to MFA and MATESOL degrees. Our faculty include many nationally and internationally recognized creative writers and scholars working in literary studies, cultural studies, language, rhetoric, and literacy. In addition to a broad range of interests and specializations particular to English as a discipline, we have significant strengths in interdisciplinary areas of scholarship, including textual and digital studies, feminism and gender studies, critical race studies, queer studies, genre and popular culture studies, sociolinguistics and critical applied linguistics, writing studies, translingual and transnational literacy studies, and environmental humanities. Looking beyond our department and our campus, Seattle and the Puget Sound region offer our students a wealth of cultural and professional resources and opportunities.
