About

Ulster University’s BPS-accredited Health Psychology (part-time) MSc gives you the theoretical concepts and practical skills to improve health outcomes for patients.

Overview

Whether you plan on becoming a Health Psychologist or applying your psychological training to other health-related areas, this distance learning Masters programme will give you the scientific principles and research skills to succeed in your chosen career.

This Health Psychology (part-time) programme at Ulster University is open to anyone with a undergraduate psychology degree (with GBC eligibility), master's level psychology conversion course, or equivalent. English language requirements also apply.

You'll be taught by a research-active faculty with over 20 years of online teaching experience. The programme's BPS-accredited framework ensures that your learning outcomes are industry relevant, and our MSc counts as Stage 1 Training towards becoming a Registered Health Psychologist.

About the program

Ulster University has a worldwide reputation for research excellence, and prides itself on the vocational strength of its teaching. The programme's BPS accreditation is valuable for graduates developing their careers as Registered Health Psychologists, researchers, consultants and in other psychology-related fields.

Enjoy total flexibility, learning 100% online, whenever and wherever is convenient. Our student success advisors will support you throughout your time as an Ulster University student in all areas, including careers advice.

There are intakes throughout the academic year, in January, March, May, September, and November. Our carousel-style programme design means you start whenever is convenient. You can even pay per module and take a break if you need to. Complete the course part-time in two years, or take up four years - it's your choice.

At the end of Ulster's Health Psychology MSc programme you'll have a critical understanding of the contexts and theories behind health-related behaviours, as well as advanced practical research skills in the application of Health Psychology techniques. Other vocationally relevant outcomes include statistical analysis, communication skills, evaluation and analytics and independent study at a postgraduate level.

Programme Structure

The programme comprises six core modules and a dissertation. The scope of the modules follows a BPS framework to ensure its relevance and qualification as Stage 1 training.

The core modules are:

  • Bio-Behavioural Mechanisms Underlying Health
  • Individual Perspectives in Health Psychology
  • Methods and Issues in Research and Practice
  • Social, Cultural and Family Perspectives in Health Psychology
