Key facts
Core and major students choose one of the following sub-areas: British Literary and Cultural Studies, English Linguistics or North American Literary and Cultural Studies. Further specializations are expressly desired within the sub-areas. The course offers a wide range of options for individual, job-oriented stays abroad, and the subject offers support in establishing contacts abroad and research.
Saarland University’s American Studies, British Studies, English Linguistics students acquire detailed specialist knowledge in their chosen focus, based on the current state of research, as well as the ability to independently and theoretically and methodically work on topics in their further linguistic, literary and cultural contexts. In addition, there is a high level of analytical and interpretative competence with regard to a large number of text types from English-speaking cultures (e.g. films and digital texts).

- Proof of professional competence in the above-mentioned areas amounting to at least 80 CP.
- A final grade of the required undergraduate degree of at least 2.0. If the final grade is not given, suitability - taking into account the existing grade - can be determined on the basis of an English-language application letter and / or selection interview.
