The MEd in Adult Education from University of New Brunswick, including higher and distance education, prepares students to develop, implement, facilitate or administer programs and services for adults in the private and public sectors. 


To meet the graduation requirements for the MEd in Adult Education from University of New Brunswick, complete one of these three routes:

  • Thesis Route: 30 credit hours (5 courses + the 15 credit hour thesis) - one (1) additional course from the Educational Research list 
  • Project Route: 30 credit hours (8 courses + the 6 credit hour project) - four (4) additional electives
  • Course Route: 30 credit hours (10 courses) - six (6) additional electives

  • history of adult education in Canada
  • theories of adult learning
  • critical reflective practice
  • evaluation studies
  • instructor preparation
  • the use of distance technologies
  • teaching in higher education.

  • Applicants to the MEd in Adult Education are required to hold a four-year undergraduate degree with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (B, or equivalent). 
  • A completed online application
  • Letter of interest
  • Up-to-date resumé
  • Three reference letters (academic references are preferred, particularly if other degrees were recent)
  • Official transcripts (copied or opened transcripts are not official)

Work experience

The equivalent of two years of full-time practical experience working in relevant aspects of adult education.
