Today’s most pressing issues transcend international borders and need interculturally competent leaders with global mindsets to tackle unmet social and environmental needs. The MA dives deep into the interdisciplinary fields of leadership, management, and social innovation to provide students necessary skills to ignite local and global transformation.
This two-year, part-time degree allows mission driven professionals to remain at their current jobs while preparing to step into leadership roles or launch new organizations or enterprises with innovative approaches to social change.
Get inspired and equipped to become a changemaker and bridge-builder across cultures and political boundaries, find new ways to create value, and bring positive contributions to communities and sectors you care about. Up-and-coming leaders will learn about social innovation and unique processes, ideas, products and programs led by governments, social enterprises, nonprofits, and public-private partnerships that creatively tackle the most pressing global challenges.
The degree blends online learning with two summer residencies. Start with a residency at the SIT Vermont campus where you will meet cohort peers, network with other SIT graduate students, and visit local initiatives working toward social and environmental change. During the second residency in New Delhi and Rajashtan, India, you will have access to leaders and organizations catalyzing change in areas related to artificial limbs, public defecation, ethical manufacturing, waste management, and rural education.
The rest of your coursework will be done with your cohort online, taking five to six credits per semester to study global challenges, social innovation, social entrepreneurship, design thinking, research methods, strategic planning, social impact, leadership, and management for social change.
An MA in Global Leadership & Social Innovation will allow you to deeply understand global challenges, find inspiration in socially innovative ideas and ventures, and contribute to positive social impact in the nonprofit, government, corporate, or philanthropic worlds.
With SIT’s experiential curriculum, you’ll learn to put theory into practice. Our part-time, hybrid format allows you to complete most of your coursework online so you can stay in your organization and community.
In this program, you will:
- Identify socio-cultural and historical root causes of key global challenges faced by organizations and communities around the world.
