Overview
This MLitt History (part time) from University of Dundee covers the history of Scotland, Europe, India, Africa, and North America, from medieval times to the present day. It draws on the activity of our research clusters in global history, Scottish history, and public history.
You'll be able to study political, cultural, military, economic, and social history. You can explore different historical issues including social justice, and topics such as crime and policing, or the historical study of crime fiction and forensics, which cross over with other academic departments.
You will also gain specialist skills to enhance your employability. For example, we offer documentary making. As part of our public history theme, you'll have the opportunity to write a script for a historical documentary, or to film a short documentary.
Other skills training includes public outreach, research ethics, research using databases, and the work of archivists. We have a substantial body of archival material and a team of archivists to work with.
If you are hoping to continue to a PhD, we offer extensive support in writing a PhD application. Our core module, Skills and Sources, includes sessions on how to write grant proposals. When you come to write your own PhD proposal, we will support you every step of the way.
Careers
When you take this course, you will gain a solid foundation for proceeding to doctoral research.
If you wish to use your studies more directly, for example in heritage, museum or archivist work, the job market is competitive, and the MLitt will further your knowledge and understanding of history and develop the advanced research skills necessary to work in these areas.
Many students also enter jobs unrelated to their course of study. This course helps you to develop your written presentation skills, as well as your ability to work independently and plan independent research and study.
