The School of Philosophy of Fudan University was formerly known as the Department of Philosophy, which was established in 1956 as one of the three earliest departments of Chinese Philosophy in the People's Republic of China.

  • The School currently offers 4 undergraduate programs including Philosophy, Religious Studies, Chinese Philosophy, and Philosophy of Science and Logic, 11 graduates programs including Marxism Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, Western Philosophy, Logic, Ethics, Aesthetics, Religious Studies, Philosophy of Science, and Western Marxism Philosophy. Besides, the School offers 2 English-taughtdegree programs that enroll international students: Chinese Philosophy and Culture, Chinese Religious Studies. Within all these programs, the School currently has 615 students in total (including 28 international students), with 250 undergraduates and 365 graduate students. It has trained more than 5000 students who graduated as professionals.

General requirements

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary passport, be in good health, have attained a degree (Bachelor's degree for Master applicants) and meet the language requirements.
  • Evidence of English language proficiency. Non-native English speaker must submit official scores of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The program requires a minimum score of 90 on the internet-based TOEFL test or 6.5 on the IELTS test. This requirement can be waived only if the applicant received a bachelor's or postgraduate degree lasting for 2 years or above from an institution with English as official instructive language.
