European Studies at KUL are interdisciplinary studies that develop interests connected with European history and culture and the ability to understand and analyze the social, political, legal and economic phenomena that occur in the European Union.


Following completion of the European Studies program graduates will be fluent in areas that are a key part of European legal regulations. They will be specialists in the scope of European problems and will acquire professional skills that are demanded on the European labor market. These studies will provide not only the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, but also supplement this knowledge with very important practical skills.

1st year courses:

Origins of Western Civilization, International Relations, Democracy in Europe, Civil Society and the Rule of Law, European Union Law, Foreign Policy of the European Union, International Human Rights Law, Islam in European context, The Holy Bible – the role in culture, EU languages workshop, Academic Writing, Elective Courses: Climate Protection, Enterprise on the EU Market.

2nd year courses:

Globalization of Culture, Priorities of Polish Foreign Policy, Intercultural Communication, Judicial cooperation in civil matters in the European Union, Catholic Social Science, Eastern Policy of the EU, Immigration Policy of the European Union, EU languages workshop, MA Seminar.Elective Courses: Church-State relations in Europe, Bioethics, The use of mediation for resolving disputes in sports, Business negotiations, International commercial arbitration.

Academic Requirements

The applicants should submit the following documents by Post or e-mail :
  • the application form for the academic year 2016/2017 (download here or fill the application online),
  • a photocopy of the certificate of secondary education (High School Diploma/General Certificate of Secondary Education) entitling to enroll for studies in the country of issue,
  • a photocopy of BA diploma when the candidate would like to apply for MA studies,
  • a photocopy of MA diploma when the candidate would like to apply for PhD studies,
  • a certificate confirming the command of English (here you can find "The list of certificates confirming the command of English"),
  • a photocopy of the applicant's passport;
