Overview

Located in Singapore, which for more than a century has been a commercial hub at the crossroads of Asia, NUS Law is very much Asia’s Global Law School. The Law Faculty currently hosts about 1000 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Around 10% of the undergraduate students and more than 90% of the graduate students are international students. Our graduate students come from more than 35 countries in Asia, Europe, North and South America, Africa and Oceania.

The NUS Law Master of Laws (LLM) by coursework programmes offers a wide variety of elective modules and is taught by an internationally distinguished academic faculty.

Students may enrol in the LLM programme without a specialisation, or select any of the seven specialisations on offer – Asian Legal Studies, Corporate & Financial Services Law, Intellectual Property & Technology Law, International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution, International & Comparative Law, International Business Law and Maritime Law.

Programme Structure

Students in the full-time Master of Laws (LLM) programmes must complete a total number of 40-44 credits in one year. The students are allowed to register for 17-23 credits of modules per semester. A student would typically read 20 credits in a semester.

In order to obtain a specialization indicated on their degree scrolls, students will have to complete the number of credits and compulsory module(s) as part of the requirement of the specialist LL.M

Alternatively, students may opt from the outset to take any 40-44 credits of modules and graduate with an LLM degree with no specialization. The latter option affords maximum flexibility in course selection according to the student’s individual preferences and interests.

Courses include:

  • Common Law Legal System of Singapore
  • Common Law Reasoning & Writing
  • Singapore Common Law of Contract
